| Name: Kenny Robb - DAY 2 |
Bike Reviewed : Honda CRF230F |
Comments: This bike was a much better option for me and I felt I could dominate the bike and that I was in control. For me it was more responsive to what I wanted it to do and I had a lot of fun on it. Despite being 6'2" and 115kg it had plenty power to get up some pretty steep climbs and light enough for me to put where I wanted it to go. |

Comments: Had a go on this the first day because of my size it was felt that it might be the better option. Bike had plenty of power and was fairly lively. Despite my size it managed to get the better of me. Nice bike but for the complete beginner maybe a bit much. |

Comments: I used the CRF230F for five days riding with Redtread and cannot fault it. Being a female novice, the smaller bike gave me the confidence to push my riding to the limit. The bike took everything I threw at it (quite often the floor!) and simply kept on going. |

Comments: A fantastic bike that flatters riders of all abilities. The handling at times was nothing short of amazing.Even when you messed up big time it got you through.Sometimes I wondered if it was down to my "skill", but deep down I knew it was down to the incredible reserves of this bike. The brakes were perfect in every situation. At no time did it feel under powered compared to it's 450 big brother. You just have to use the gears more when the going gets more demanding.Otherwise you could choose "full on", using the gears and revs more or "chilled" using higher gears and the amazing torque on offer. To be honest the second option probably isn't much slower than the first,it just isn't so much fun.The only problem i had was the gear change from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd.At times it just didn't want to go in.This was a bit of a pain at times, espescially when riding "full on" on demanding sections, when it would really mess with your concentration and would result in riding companions disapearing into the distance.[ Very frustrating!!!] Would I buy one? Yes I would, except for reservations over the gear change, but I would like to try the 450 1st to be sure that I wasn't missing out. |

Comments: Being a novice to off-road riding I found it to be very easy to ride & fairly forgiving of mistakes..!
Being 6' tall I originally wanted to use the CRF450 but by the end I was grateful of the good advice from Ian to use the 230F.
It made it a lot easier when I did fall off (which was fairly often!)
Probably more suitable for up to 5'8" tall. Also, as Ian said: "It will keep going up just about anything" |

Comments: Superb!
As a KTM 400 exe rider I thought I had a decent dirt bike but the Honda excelled in all areas.
Lighter and more powerful than the KTM but also forgiving and bulletproof - which it needed to be! Have I been converted??? |

Comments: Hi. We where 8 boys from Iceland at Redtread for 1 week in the beginning of feb 2008. We had a great time whith Ian and the bikes that he knows all about. We ask him a lot of questions and he seems to know everything about the bikes. We all ride bikes from europa now, KTM,Husaberg and GAS GAS but will buy os Honda very soon. The bikes are very easy to handling and feels very light. Feels like they are less havy than the bikes we ride. Motor is very good, powerful and running very smoth, the gears are great and suspension great. The problem here in Iceland or the problem in Honda depends how you look at it is to get it street legal its very exspensiv. Honda crf 450 x on the street is about 12500 euros coming from italy where they made them legal, while you can buy ktm for 9000 euros. We can buy the Honda x or f bike for 7500-8000 euros not street legal but than we have problem whith the police. We use the bikes to travel in our montains,on the roads there and police will stop us on illigal bikes. There have been explosion in enduro bikes in Iceland for couple of yaers now and they are selling a lot of new bikes now. If the Honda could get the price down to ktm price, street legal, the Honda would sell more bikes here in Iceland. But the Honda is a great bike and we are all very satisfid and thankful for Ians guidness of the bike. Thordur Sveinsson. |

Comments: The smaller bike in the stable was fantastic fun its, shorter height very good at building confidence for the novice rider of shorter stature. Dont be put off by the smaller capacity the reduced size / weight makes it a lot more fun and just a quick in some sections. Overall a great ride. |

Comments: started out on the CRF250 which I found to be a really nice flickable bike and was really enjoying it. Then on the 2nd day I was on a CRF450. Well what can I say? I felt at home on it almost immediately. The power suited me better than the CRF250. It was a very linear power delivery, which make for a forgiving bike on the trails. The handling suited me too, quite stable but still flickable. I hardly noticed the extra weight of the CRF450 compared to the CRF250 . Ian had said that the CRF450 would suit someone of my build (15 1/4 stone) and he was absolutely right. I was a big fan of the Suzuki DRZ400s Redtread used to campaign. But the CRF range are another couple of divisions up from them. You could tell the CRF heritage came from a racing background rather than just a trailriding (still a big fan of Suzuki DRZ400s as well though) Even had a go of the CRF230 for a bit. What a fun bike that is. So to summarise, If some money fell out of the sky into my lap, I'd be round to my nearest Honda dealer in a nanosecond to buy a CRF450. |

Comments: I thought the CRF450 was a superb bike, it did everything I wanted from it and then some. The light weight coupled with enough power to get you through everything yet without being a too much too handle made it an excellent all rounder, competent on the technical river sections and more than able to gun along the faster forestry tracks too. I was really surprised at how good it was on the road too...fantastic all round ability. I want one.

Comments: This was the first time on a Honda dirt bike for me
(I own a 450 4 stroke of a different make).
I was impressed with the handling qualities of the 450X, very stable in all conditions.
The engine produces good controllable power making it a fun ride. I like.

Comments: I was very impressed with this bike as I've not ridden dirt bikes for some 20+ years;
I probably went much quicker than my ability but it did not spit me off once in three days. The fact that they soak up the abuse at Redtread speaks volumes for their build quality and durability. |

Comments: Excellent bike.
I am only 5ft7" but it didn\'t feel too tall and the handling was confidence inspiring.
I could have done with a little more power/torque in places but extra agility and that lack of serious grunt of the 450 made for more controlable power.
Ideal for shorter, intermediate rider.

Even though the seat height was more than I was used to, the bike gave buckets of confidence and was light enough to through around when the need arose!
Well done Honda!
as well as being professionally prepared by Ian & Dougie before each ride out. |
